I feel like Alice Cooper...
and singing the song "School's Out for Summer"! Well, almost. I am off for 10 days before heading back in for summer school. And I am totally enjoying it. I have made some major stash enhancements..taking advantage of the fact that, with the end of school, comes the end of paychecks. Even without purchasing another skein of yarn in my lifetime, I will have plenty of projects and stash lined up to do. But I just couldn't resist some of the new patterns and such that have arrived in blogland and Ravelry and the internet..here are just a few that I have lined up or am thinking about starting.
I have purchased yarn to make the Seascape Stole from the Summer issue of Knitty. I plan to make it using Rowan Kidsilk Spray in Medici
I have jumped on the February Lady Sweater bandwagon. It is the grown up version of Elizabeth Zimmerman's "Baby Sweater on Two Needles" and created by Pamela Wynne. I have purchased this yarn to create it.
It is Nature Wool by Araucania in Eggplant. One of these projects will be my Olympic Knitting project...just haven't decided which one.
I definitely need to start, and finish, this sweater for my cousin's new baby girl which is due in July. It is "Baby Athos" which I will be knitting in "Lullaby" in "Ophelia"
I will be making the newborn size, so it shouldn't take too long.
For her older brother, who will be 2 in October, I am making him a couple of pairs of socks. The project is serving a dual purpose; first it is a gift for Ian, but mostly I am using it as a learning tool to finally learn to do "2-at-a-Time Socks" using the technique in the book by the same title by Melissa Morgan Oakes. I have wanted to learn a Magic Loop, circular needle type of method for sometime now..and I finally get it! Here are the beginnings of the two socks, which are knit in Berocco Comfort in Aegean Sea and Seedling.(I will be making identical socks so that Ian has 2 pair of matching socks..the 2 different colors were recommended to learn the technique.)
On the finished item front..my "Jaywalking Through Europe" Socks are finally finished! After several stops and starts and one complete do-over, they are done and actually fit! They were knit in Lion Brand Magic Stripes in an I-don't-remember the colorway on US size 1 dpns. I call them Jaywalking Through Europe because they were actually worked on while in Europe this past Spring, although the majority of the socks were done here in the USA. Here they are:
They were done in time to be my June socks for SAM5. The pattern is "Jaywalker" by Grumperina.
Well..off to pack up stuff to bring to my Quilter's Anonymous Dinner tonight. I'll be posting about my Drop Spinning Class Experience from last Saturday in a day or so.
