Where's the Bengay??

Because I am one sore puppy! The 2008 Ravelympics are now over. I managed to finish half of my events that I signed on to do. Besides the two pair of Olympian socks, I finally started, and finished, a Clapotis. It is the pattern from Knitty by Kate Gilbert that just about everyone in the world has done but me. Here is my version:

It was great fun to knit and I definitely plan to make another one someday. The only variation to the pattern that I made was an additional three repeats of the straight row section. Except for some of the pooling, I like the way the KnitPicks Gossamer knit up. It drapes nicely and I am sure it will get a lot of usage this winter.

Of course, I couldn't go a day without starting something new. I cast on this evening for a Special Olympics Scarf. Information about the project can be found here. I purchased my yarn at Walmart (the Delft Blue was a bit of a challenge to find) and decided to improvise a pattern using the two required colors. I am using a modified version of the Ballband Dishcloth or Slipstitch pattern. I cast on 21 stitches on a size US7 needle, which is giving me a scarf about 5 inches wide. Here is what I have done so far.

I think it is making an interesting pattern on the backside that is making it more reversible than expected. I hope to make several for this worthy cause. And I do plan to finish those projects that I started for the Ravelympics but failed to complete. Knitting time is becoming a bit more precious, but I have started attending a local SnB at my nearby Borders. It was great fun last week and I met several Ravelers there as well. I hope to make it a regular thing. Well..time to go get that massage from my sports trainer..ah, if only....

ps..I just realized that yesterday was my two year blogaversary! amazing...

I feel like Rocky...

although I don't feel much like running up the stairs of the Philadelphia Art Museum. All of my pre-Olympic training did not prepare me for the aches and pains of marathon knitting sessions..I think I need a massage. The Ravelympics are well underway on Ravelry, and my events are going pretty well for myelf and my Team Red Sox Nation. I committed myself to starting, and finishing, 5 projects during the 17 day period that the Summer Olympics in Beijing are being held. I also signed on for an Olympic Sock Knitting Contest in the Soctopia knitting group on Ravelry. Thankfully, the pair of socks will count towards both goals. Well, not only did I start and complete a pair for the competition, I made two pair!

This first pair was started on 8/8/08
Pattern: Olympian Socks by Sheryl Giles
Yarn: Regia Color 4-ply in "Tansania"
Needle: US size 2 Addi Turbo 40" circular using 2-at-a-time method
Completed: 8/13/08

The second pair was finished last night..or was it this morning??
Pattern: Olympian Socks by Sheryl Giles
Yarn: Crystal Palace Panda Silk #4006
Needles: US 2 dpns
Started: 8/14/08
Completed: 8/18/08 @ 1:45 a.m.

Not only have I completed these socks this week, but I also started a Huggable Hedgehog by Fibre Trends which is partially completed:

And I've started my Seascape Stole by Kieran Foley from the summer issue of Knitty. I am using Rowan Kidsilk Spray in "Medici".

And believe it or not, I've also started my first Clapotis by Kate Gilbert from Knitty.I am using Knitpicks Gossamer in the Sweet Pea colorway. I will post a pic when there is actually enough of it to photograph.

All in all, it's been a very productive month so far. I have also completed several other projects which were non Olympic, but I will post about them at a later date. Off to stretch before my next event!
